Teaching Tips
應 用 歌 曲 教 唱
How to choose a song?
1. Pick your favorite song!
PS. Pay attention not to pick those singers who do not have clear pronunciation because then students might get discouraged if they cannot understand what the singers sing about!
2. Pick the one which has certain sentence patterns in it!
EX: the lateset hit by BOYZONE(男孩特區)-"No matter what" contains the pattern - "no matter ... "and "If only...") Students just love it!!!
The old style song - "All I have to do is dream" By this song, we can teach students the pattern -"All I have to do is...)
Another old style song - "The end of the world." There are many interrogative sentences such as "Why does the sun go on shining?..."
3. Find a song related to the theme that you lately talked about!
EX: If you talked about Love or Friendship, then you can choose a love song or songs about friendship!
Or if you need to teach students about writing a letter, you can let the students listen to "A Dear John letter" and afterwards you can even ask them to write a love letter or a dear John letter!
4. Pick the songs that students love!
You can ask students to bring their favorite songs and give you the lines. If possible you can even ask them to write about the reasons why they choose a certain song. You can then select some songs that are suitable (fair pronunciation, proper rhythm) to play in class!
5. Pick Chrsitmas songs when it is Christmas season.
There are so many Christmas songs but don't forget to bring them some new ones in case they feel bored. Always remember "variety" is importent!!
Procedure:
1. let the students listen to the song first without giving them the lines of the song
2. give them the handout with some words or phrases taken out or write a short passage which describes the song and take out some key words that students can find in the song
3. listen to the song again! If your students want to listen to it again, just let them have fun!!

應用連環漫畫如 Peanuts
1. You can present the students some comic strips.
2. Ask some comprehension questions.Or ask them to speak out or write down anything that comes to their mind in English. This may be a good way to motivate students to write a paragraph.

應用笑話、謎語或腦筋急轉彎
Sometimes it is more fun to bring intoo class some jokes, riddles or some brain teasers. Jokes can be use to do some comprehension check or to elicit their similar expereiences.
Students love to solve problems. You can use them five or three minutes before the class is dismissed.

應用諺語與名人嘉言
You can present some proverbs or some famous quotes and discuss with the students the meaning of them.
Then you can ask them to write something based on the saying or quote. This could be a good writing activity!

應用繞口令
This might bring some fun to the classroom. This could help stduents to practice pronunciation.
1. You can first play or read the tongue twister without giving the lines.
2. Then ask them to guess the target sounds that you want them to practice. Some students might be able to get it when you first play the tongue twister.
3. Then practice with the students.
