| 一、 教學目標
培養學生聽、說、讀、寫的實際能力為主。〝說〞是一切外語能力的基礎,所以在發展其他語言能力之前,必須先確定學生已經能將所學之字彙、句型運用在口語表達方面。
二、 課程安排
課程內容是針對句型和字彙而設計。所謂的〝情境〞並沒有列在課本中,而是指教師上課時必須透過各種教學活動將情境帶進句型中。一般的SLT課程大綱如下所示(Frisby
1957:134):

實際上,SLT是最早使用課程進度表(structural syllabus)的教學法。事先規劃,編寫教案是此發對與語言教育的一大貢獻。
三、教學活動與學習型態
教師以L2授課,並透過實物、圖畫、肢體動作等視覺方式呈現字彙或句型中常見的情境,而不做文法解釋和句意翻譯。學生練習的活動包括帶代換句型、引導式覆誦、聽寫、小組口語練習。以下試舉兩例
1. (Frisby 1957:56):

2. (國小英語師資訓練手冊,p. 9-10,師德)
步驟一 老師用英語告訴學生今天要畫畫。老師拿出一張風景畫草稿,要求學生拿出蠟筆。
步驟二 老師指著圖的天空說:” I need a BLUE crayon(蠟筆). Can
you give me a BLUE crayon?” 學生的認知之道天空可能是藍色的,因此遞給老師藍色的蠟筆。老師說:”Yes,
It’s a blue crayon.”學生可覆誦:”Yes, It’s a blue crayon.”
步驟三 老師指著圖的書說,” need a GREEN crayon. Can you give
me a GREEN crayon?” 學生的認知知道樹可能是綠色的,。因此遞給老師綠色的蠟筆。老師說:”Yes, It’s a
green crayon.”學生覆誦:”Yes, It’s a green crayon”
步驟四 依此法只圖畫其他部分,教其他顏色。
四、 教師與學生的角色
在介紹句型與字彙時,教師扮演的是示範者的角色,隨時配合教學內容,營造相關之情境,讓學生感受到其所學皆現實生活中實用語。之後,教師便像個樂團指揮般引導學生回答問題、造句,或依照指示來做活動。也就是說,SLT是以教師為中心,而學生只要聽從老師的指示來做練習即可。
