活動解說 藉著圖片所呈現的資料(包括對話、表情、肢體動作等)讓學生利用自己的感覺及經驗 ,將所看到的片段組織成一個有趣的故事。
本次作文教學採 Multiple pictures guided,除了讓學生練習敘述之外, 也學到日常使用的單字,如 answering machine, voice mail , cell phone, mobile phone 及常用動詞片語如 answer the phone, hang up, leave the phone off the hook, get a wrong number等。
基本原則
  1. 開始最好點明整個故事的主題為何,讓讀者有個清楚的概念。
  2. 選擇一種組織模式,依時間、 空間或重要性等順序,仔細觀察每一格漫畫的前後關聯, 並能夠使用一些句型化來強調故事中主角的態度和想法, 如此可讓文章更生動活潑 。
  3. 整篇文章必須營造出一致的口吻與氣氛 。
教學過程
  1. 先將全班同學分成每四人一組,並發下講義每組一份,講義包括範文一份及此次作文要用的漫畫一份。
  2. 先看範文,再講解範文內容。(範文浮貼之後)
  3. 給一些寫作的建議(tips), 如下列:
    Tips for effective descriptions
    Think about the topic.
    Think of everything you can that is related to the topic.
    What adjectives can you think of that describe the topic or related ideas? What personal experiences can you think of that might help you describe the topic?
  4. 討論分組要寫作的內容(15~20 min)。
  5. 分組寫作 (20~30 min)。

Going to the Dentist

It is not pain that makes me frown when I get a toothache; it is the thought of going to the dentist.

It is with terror in my heart that I go into the dentist's office and talk to the nurse.

The terror grows as I sit back in the horrible chair.

I feel worse with every sharp, pointy tool the dentist picks up -- even if he doesn't use it.

Then, when I am the most afraid and in pain, and my mouth is filled with tools, he always says:"See, that doesn't hurt."

There is only one good part of going to the dentist: the feeling of tremendous relief when finished.

Lisa hates going to the dentist. The very thought of visiting the dentist is more troubling to her than the actual visit.
She is terrified when entering the dentist's office and talking to the nurse, but even more terrified when she sits in the frightening chair.
Her fear increases each time the dentist uses a tool. All of the tools are pointy and scary.
And of course, when she is the most afraid and in pain, and her mouth is full of tools, the dentist will tell her it doesn't hurt.
There is one thing Lisa likes about going to the dentist, however. When she is finished, she gets a feeling of tremendous relief.
